“Decision Making” tutorial

Overview

In this online tutorial, we will focus on the cognitive processes involved when people make a judgment when given several alternatives, be it in selecting a course of action, or what to believe. We will examine some factors that make human decision-making truly “human”.

Learning outcomes

• Explain a model of rational behaviour and how well it predicts real behaviour.

• Describe the role of heuristics and other factors in decision-making.

• Link how fallacies are made to reliance upon heuristics.

• Define metacognition and describe how it can aid in decision-making.
